Magnesium

Magnesium…  You know where I’m going with this, right?  I love Magnesium.  I love it so much that I made individual take home bags filled with Magnesium Salt Bath Flakes for clients to have and soak in.  I tell everyone about Magnesium and how it’s helped me.  Listen, I know it’s summer out and it’s not exactly ideal to take a hot bath when it’s crazy hot out there.  The good news is you don’t have to take a bath.  There are other ways to take in Magnesium.  Here are more options:

Magnesium-Rich Foods

Dark chocolate (yum!), avocados (double-yum!), nuts, legumes, tofu, seeds, whole grains, some fatty fish, bananas, dark leafy greens (kale, spinach, collard greens, turnip greens and mustard greens)

Nuun - Rest

Nuun Rest is great either hot or cold.  It’s kind of like an Alka-Seltzer tablet that you drop into either hot or cold water.  Mix it and either sip it if it’s hot or drink up if it’s cold.  Also great for when you’re traveling as it doesn’t take a lot of space in your luggage.  It has magnesium, electrolytes, and tart cherry.  It costs about $5.50 per tube for 10 tablets and it comes in either Lemon Chamomile or Blackberry Vanilla flavors (my favorite is Lemon Chamomile).  You can find it at Target, Whole Foods, Amazon and sporting goods stores.

Doctor’s Best High Absorption Magnesium 100% Chelated 100 mg Tablets

I’ll never forget being at a vitamin store shopping for a multi-vitamin while still in school.  A woman in the store got to chatting with me about Magnesium and how it’s helped her.  As it turns out, she was also a Massage Therapist and couldn’t stop raving about how Magnesium helped her with pain/soreness from doing bodywork.  I figured what the heck?  My thumbs were bothering me, and I could try a small bottle to see if it helped.  I suppose you could say this was my “gateway” to all things Magnesium. I started sleeping better and I was sleeping throughout the night.  That pain I had in my thumbs was gone and I just felt stronger overall.  I started obsessively reading about all of Magnesium’s benefits and was hooked from then on.  You can find this either a vitamin store or Amazon for less than $15- for 240 tablets.

Magnesium Salt Bath Flakes

You may not need an 8 lb bag of Magnesium Salt Bath Flakes ($19.99 on Amazon and comes with a free 8 oz. spray bottle) but if you like soaking in the tub, you’ll be set for a while.  This is safe for both kids and adults.  So great when you feel as though you are coming down with something.  Pour 4 cups in the tub and soak for 20 minutes.  I have done this on more than one occasion and literally woke up the next day feeling like a new person.  Also great if you just want to do a foot bath, too.  There are lots of different brands of Magnesium Salt Bath Flakes and in smaller or larger sizes available at vitamin stores and Amazon.
